Energy Audit

A systemized approach to measuring, recording, and evaluating the operating performance of a building system with the intention of improving the performance.

Examples: ASHRAE's Guide for Commercial Building Energy Analysis.

Energy Cost Budget

(as relates to ASHRAE/IESNA 90.1 and LEED) Energy Cost Budget refers to the baseline case of the project as defined by a standard such as ASHRAE 90.1.  The energy cost budget establishes the energy efficiency target for the building.  It is the estimated annual energy cost for the budget building design.  The energy cost budget is compared to the design energy cost which may not exceed the budget.  The design energy cost and the energy cost budget are calulated as separate runs by an approved simulation program using the rules spelled out in a standard such as 90.1.  The comarison is used to establish LEED credit for optimizing energy performance in the Energy and Atmosphere Catagory in the LEED Rating System. (reference: LEED-NC 2.1 reference guide and ASHRAE 90.1 User's Manual)

Etched Glass

Glass treated by an acid bath, producing a satiny, diffused surface or design.

Extended Life Lamp

Incandescent lamp with 2500+ hours of rated average life and reduced output; uses a stronger filament.
